ABOUT THE COURSE
The conducting course of the Orquesta Filarmónica de la Fundación Ciudad de Requena (OFR) was born with the aim of providing a space for growth and practical learning within a symphony orchestra. Led by the principal conductor of the OFR, Francisco Melero, the training combines theoretical classes, where the works and conducting technique are studied and worked on in depth, with daily practical sessions with the symphony orchestra.
The course is aimed both at active conductors who want to perfect their technique or specialize in orchestral conducting, as well as conducting students or amateur conductors. Thanks to an individualized methodology and a small number of active participants, the training adapts to different levels to optimize the results of each participant.
The eminently practical nature of the course led to the creation of the Maestro Collado Conducting Competition, which gives the winner the opportunity to work with the symphony orchestra and perform a concert as a guest conductor.
The chosen works seek to delve into different aspects of the conducting world, covering the main works of symphonism, baroque music or lyrical works, modern compositions or solo concertos, among others. In this edition and coinciding with the 200th anniversary of Bruckner’s birth, the course will focus on the symphonism of the Austrian composer. In addition, work will be done with soloists, with A. Copland’s clarinet concerto, featuring an outstanding international soloist. And the students will face how to approach the premiere of a contemporary work, with “Tres Texturas”, First Prize in the orchestral modality of the Festival de Música de Ribagorza by composer Víctor Marco Vico.
The program includes aspects as relevant as the figure of the conductor, what technique is and what it is for, rehearsal strategies, the importance of good programming, or how to face a score.
