Wiener Meisterkurse – Jörg Birhance, Orchestra Conducting

Jörg Birhance
27 JUL – 02 AUG 2026

ABOUT THE COURSE

The Wiener Meisterkurse orchestra conducting masterclass, led by Jörg Birhance, will take place in Vienna from July 27 to August 2, 2026. The program establishes a developmental line from Joseph Haydn, whom the course recognizes as establishing the foundations of the symphonic genre and the conducting profession, to 20th-century exile and rediscovered composers such as Alexandre Tansman and Edmund von Borck.

The training schedule includes three days of preparatory sessions with conducting piano, followed by three days of orchestral rehearsals and rehearsal analysis with the WienSinfonietta. The course focuses on score analysis based on the ‘Observation of Form’ and functional conducting technique after Sergiu Celibidache, culminating in a final public concert that will be recorded on video for participants’ personal use.
