Mark Shapiro
Athens, Greece
19 – 25 JUN 2027

ABOUT THE COURSE

The Athens Philharmonia Orchestra hosts an advanced orchestral conducting masterclass led by American conductor Mark Shapiro (The Juilliard School). Held in Athens, Greece, this six-day program is designed for early and mid-career conductors aged 18 and older seeking to refine their artistic leadership and technical precision.

The course features a maximum of 15 active participants. Each day includes a 3-hour two-piano seminar alongside a 4-hour rehearsal with full orchestra. Professional video and photo coverage are provided to all active conductors.

Shapiro’s psychophysical approach treats conducting challenges as fundamentally musical, integrating Alexander Technique principles with warm, empathetic, and rigorous instruction. The core repertoire covers major symphonies by Beethoven, Dvořák, and Sibelius.
