Helsinki, Finland
22 – 26 FEB 2027

ABOUT THE COURSE

The Finnish Conducting School offers an intensive five-day conducting masterclass in Helsinki, led by Sasha Mäkilä alongside pianist Taru Ritavesi and the Helsinki Metropolitan Orchestra. Ten active participants will work closely with the faculty and ensemble, focusing on conducting technique, rehearsal skills, score analysis, and communication with orchestral musicians and vocal soloists.

Participants will gain substantial practical experience with a guaranteed minimum of 20 minutes of daily podium time with the orchestra. The course also features daily preparatory technique sessions with piano, as well as collaboration with singers from the Mirjam Helin Singing Academy. All sessions may be videotaped for individual study and evaluation.

The masterclass culminates in a public final concert on February 26, 2027, followed by an individual feedback session. String players participating in the masterclass are also invited to join the orchestra during rehearsals and the final performance.
