ABOUT THE COURSE
The Irish Conductors Network, in collaboration with the UCD Symphony Orchestra, presents a practical orchestral conducting workshop led by Ciarán Crilly, with support from Sinéad Hayes. The program offers active participants the opportunity to rehearse a 90-piece high-level student orchestra at Astra Hall, University College Dublin.
The workshop begins with an online Zoom score study and preparation session focused on Shostakovich’s Festive Overture. On the rehearsal day, active conductors receive 15 minutes of dedicated podium time with the orchestra, followed by structured feedback from orchestra members, video recordings, and written evaluations from the mentors.
Participation as an active conductor is open exclusively to Irish conductors and conductors currently based in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Observers and Zoom session attendees are welcome globally, making it a valuable opportunity for conductors and composers seeking to deepen their orchestral knowledge.
