ABOUT THE COURSE
The 9th Athens International Conducting Masterclass and Competition will take place from January 23 to 30, 2027, featuring instructor Michalis Economou and the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra. Hosted at the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra Amphitheatre in Alimos, Greece, this intensive week-long course centers on celebrating two centuries of Ludwig van Beethoven’s symphonic repertoire.
Participation is limited to 14 active conductors. Each active participant receives up to 90 minutes of podium time with the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra and 50 minutes of rehearsal with two pianos. The course culminates in final concerts in which every active participant will conduct.
Beyond the educational masterclass components, the event includes a competitive aspect. Members of the orchestra will select one prize winner to be invited back as a guest conductor with the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra during the following season. Professional video recordings and high-resolution photos of all sessions are provided to participants.
Applications are accepted via email through December 14, 2026. Early submissions are prioritized for selection, with final notifications distributed by December 24, 2026.
